Forking is the native gesture of the federated wiki. Copy a page to your site, record where it came from, and let the twins diverge. This page extends the same gesture across system borders — vault to wiki, wiki to bottle, bottle to wiki.
Twins share a slug. A page and its vault note carry the same name on both sides of the border. That shared name is the twin identity, the thing that lets either side find the other again.
Every crossing is recorded on both sides. A wiki page born from a vault note says so in its journal, in plain words. A note forked from a wiki page carries the binding in its frontmatter: the site, the slug, the title, and the date it crossed.
The journal is the canonical trail. Notes and bottles carry only their current binding. The full history lives on the wiki page, because the wiki page is built to be a ledger.
No border runs on a timer. Every crossing is a deliberate gesture by a person, exactly like pressing fork in the browser. Twins diverge by design, and divergence is surfaced, never silently merged.
The crossings are made by Babel Fish, a small translator that speaks all three dialects.
One border is still a dream: serving a vault read-only as a wiki site, so the browser itself can fork from it. That would make the Lab a true citizen of the neighbourhood.
